Cisco MultiCloud Software Engineer - Python, AWS, Ansible in San Jose, California

MultiCloud Software Engineer - Python, AWS, Ansible

  • Location: San Jose, California, US

  • Area of Interest Engineer - Software

  • Job Type Professional

  • Technology Interest Cloud and Data Center, Software Development, Testing

  • Job Id 1243230

What You'll Do

You will be writing software that ties together multiple products and services, building user interfaces and workflows that drive various product and service APIs or generating their configurations to ensure that the integrated solutions we create are easy to consume. To get to the point where you know what you need to write, you will roll up your sleeves and actually set up the solutions you are automating. You will be writing tests that prove your solution works today, and is still working when your co-worker checks in her code, or we get an updated version of a component.

You will be collaborating with key stakeholders throughout the creation and implementation processes; this will take the form of documentation, presentations, demonstrations, and anything else required to ensure everyone understands what needs to be done, what is being done, and what was done.

Who You'll Work With

The Multicloud Integrations team is a small group within the Cloud Products and Services Group. CPSG’s charter is to create products that help our customers get the most of modern cloud infrastructure, from building private clouds and container services to deploying and managing application lifecycles to providing model-driven configuration of network devices (think Chef/Puppet/Ansible for networks). The Multicloud integrations team's charter is to take those products, along with products from many other Cisco groups, to create end-to-end, automated solutions for Cisco’s customers.

Your co-workers will be a close team of engineers and architects who bring decades of experience building networking and infrastructure product, delivering SaaS applications in both traditional datacenters and clouds, and working with customers and partners to solve real problems.

The team prefers 1:1 collaboration in our San Jose office, but we will make an exception for a very strong candidate and we occasionally work from home when necessary.

Who You Are

  • You will have experience delivering or building SaaS applications running in one public cloud (AWS, GCE, Azure, private, etc)

  • You will be familiar with a full range of products in the “devops toolbox”; the best application for a given problem has probably already been written and can be re-used.

  • You will know what “production-ready” means, how to write code that meets that standard, and are ready to support your code in production (a Devops principle)

  • You will have solid networking knowledge; CCIE preferred, or equivalent experience

  • You will be comfortable around Linux and the CLI

  • You will have knowledge of open source technologies such as Docker, OpenStack, Kubernetes, Mesos, Consul, Ansible, Terraform, etc.

  • You will know Python, Go, Rust or other languages commonly used in the systems automation world

  • You will be fluent in the use of standard software development support tools: CI servers, git repositories, test frameworks, etc.

  • You will work collaboratively with others, including coworkers, engineers from other teams, and sometimes customers. Collaboration includes tools like email, chat, video conferencing, and so on. Good English skills are a must.

  • You will have a lot of professional curiosity, and be continually updating your knowledge and skills using any means necessary.

  • You will have a BS in Computer Science (or equivalent experience) plus 3-5 years of work experience as a DevOps Engineer, Reliability Engineer, Cloud Engineer or Software Engineer with expertise creating infrastructure automation

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
