Cisco Hardware Designer in Saint-Laurent, Canada

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop your hardware architect aptitudes by carry out feasibility studies, systems definition, requirements & design specifications.

  • Improve your project management skills by collaborating on project plans, performing risk assessments, and participating in status meetings to report progress, risks, issues, or blockers.

  • Become a technology guide by staying on the edge of component, design and manufacturing process limitations. Guide teams to help them make the best technological decisions to develop innovative solutions that outperform the competition.

  • Polish your knowledge of signals and powers integrity by covering high-speed interfaces, high-power distribution systems, and high-density design structures. Define layout guidelines to meet SI/PI and timing requirements.

  • Improve your system designer aptitudes by leading, supervising and optimizing a multidisciplinary hardware development process (electrical, optical, mechanical, thermal, certification, manufacturing).

  • Act as a gatekeeper to ensure the quality level of all physical work you're doing. Coordinate, lead and facilitate hardware design reviews with all teams of interest.

  • Become a reference in test plans definition, board bring-up, system integration, system validation against requirements, specifications & standards.

  • Master product certification requirements, keep up to date with the latest regulatory standards, define certification test plans, develop reflexes to design products ready for certification, perform pre-compliance tests, take ownership of the final phase of certification and support the agencies.

  • Be a key contributor on providing high quality support to other departments in the organization (manufacturing, customers, etc.). Investigate sophisticated problem, provide root-cause-analysis and propose fixing solutions.

  • In short, become one of the stone foundation of the hardware team to define and develop high-end solutions that will be used in next-generation telecom network infrastructures deployed worldwide!

Who You'll Work With:

You will become an integral part of our dynamic Embedded R&D Hardware team at Cisco Montreal. The team comprises a diverse group of authorities, each bringing a wealth of experience, knowledge, and passion to reach common goals. Working with local and external teams, you will primarily be responsible for the development of network solutions, from initial requirements to production readiness.

  • You have strong oral and written communicator with skills to promote interactions and technical knowledge's transfer between multi-disciplinary teams.

  • You are a teammate that is self-motivated, autonomous, meticulous, pragmatic, and driven with a passion for innovation.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in electrical engineering or equivalent.

  • Confirmed experience with hardware system development (Electrical, Mechanical, Thermal, Certifications, Manufacturing).

  • Proficiency and confirmed experience with components selection, schematics entries & layout guidelines.

  • Master the use of test equipment’s for system bring up and validation with excellent solving/debugging capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding the limitations of electrical, mechanical & assembly fabrication processes.

  • Hands on experience with board re-work and repair during prototyping phase.

  • Knowledge with high-speed interfaces, signal/power integrity & timing closure concepts.

  • Basic understanding of design concepts to meet certification’s requirements (EMC, Safety, Telco).

  • Experience in supervising & advising hardware design develop by internal & external teams.

  • Skills with the following tools is an advantage: Omnify, DxDesigner, Xpedition, SolidWorks, Flotherm, Jira.
